Gutters and Fascia: The Fall Job That Prevents the Spring Job

A clogged gutter is not a gutter problem for long. It becomes a carpentry problem.

The sequence is always the same: gutter fills, water backs up over the rear edge, sits against the fascia, and the fascia goes soft from behind. Then the rafter tail behind it goes.

Check the back edge, not the front. Water damage shows on the house side of the fascia, where you cannot see it from the ground.

Downspouts matter as much as gutters. A clear gutter draining into a blocked downspout is still a full gutter.

Timing: clean before leaf drop, then again after. One cleaning in the wrong month does nothing.

Where the drainage ends is part of the system. Water dumped at the foundation comes back as a crawlspace problem.
