Deck boards, ten joists, stairs and rails
Location: Greenville, SC
The problem. The homeowner asked for new deck boards. Underneath, ten joists were soft and the stair stringers had separated from the framing.
What we did.
- Removed the full deck surface and assessed the framing before quoting the real scope
- Replaced ten compromised joists and added a support beam where the span was undersized
- Rebuilt the stairs, including new stringers and treads
- Replaced all deck boards and railing caps
- Sealed every cut end, including the faces bearing on framing
The result. Finished before Thanksgiving. The homeowner came for a resurface and got a structurally sound deck, because we looked underneath first.
