Why does my door swing open on its own?
The jamb isn't plumb. Gravity does the rest. Re-setting the frame is the fix; adjusting hinges only masks it.
Slab or pre-hung?
Pre-hung is usually better if the existing frame is old or out of square, because you get a fresh plumb jamb. A slab works when the frame is sound and you want to keep the existing casing.
